Insider Tip
1/5

Book a room with a private terrace and have breakfast there rather than the restaurant — it's one of the quieter pleasures of the place

Why It Matters

Britain's only country house hotel to hold two Michelin stars continuously for over 40 years. Founded by Raymond Blanc OBE in 1984. Also holds a Green Michelin Star for sustainability and three Michelin Keys. The kitchen garden grows over 70 varieties of herbs and hundreds of vegetable species that supply the restaurant daily. Has trained 34 chefs who went on to earn their own Michelin stars, including Heston Blumenthal and Marco Pierre White.

Raymond Blanc's honey-stone 15th-century manor house in the Oxfordshire countryside has held two Michelin stars every single year since it opened in 1984 — the only country house hotel in Britain to manage that. The 32 rooms are each wildly different, designed around Blanc's travels and memories, and the two-acre kitchen garden feeds the restaurant directly. It's really more of a restaurant with extraordinarily good rooms than a hotel in the traditional sense. No pool, no gym, no spa — or at least not until the grand reopening in summer 2027 after an extensive £36 million redevelopment.

Deluxe Rooms
Deluxe Room

Deluxe Rooms

The entry-level rooms are compact but beautifully conceived. Each has a distinct personality — Bluebell has Toile de Jouy wallpaper and a window seat overlooking the courtyard; Emily is in the oldest part of the manor with original 15th-century beams and twin windows; Mimosa wraps you in 'Lemone Silk' Chase Erwin fabric; Le Rouge et Le Noir goes full drama with deep reds and jet blacks. Botticelli has a glorious spiral staircase linking the bedroom to a bathroom with two freestanding Victorian tubs upstairs.

Garden Junior Suites

Same footprint as the Junior Suites but with the addition of a private terrace — a real upgrade if you want to have breakfast or an evening drink outside in the garden. The Rouge et Noir garden suite is often singled out as one of the most atmospheric in the house.

Garden One Bedroom Suites

The Garden One Bedroom Suites add private outdoor space — a terrace and garden — to the one-bedroom suite footprint. L'Orangerie, one of the most beloved rooms at Le Manoir, falls here: inspired by Raymond Blanc's grandparents' 18th-century chateau, it has a four-poster bed, crystal chandeliers, and a private terrace. Consistently ranks among the top suites in UK hotel guides.

Junior Suites

Bigger and more characterful than the Deluxe rooms, each Junior Suite takes on a distinct story. Amethyst has lilac tones with dramatic dark marble in the bathroom. Cameo uses the manor's original beams and sits in the eaves with views of the gardens and a freestanding bathtub. Hollyhock was once the master bedroom of the founding Cromwell family, kitted out in refined antique furnishings. Hyacinth has a large bay window and a hand-painted Victorian bath tucked behind the drapes.

Signature Suites

The top tier — three distinct suites, all sleeping up to six. Les Mauves (89 sqm) has two bedrooms, two sitting areas, and two marble bathrooms connected through a shared lobby, with bay windows overlooking the iconic lavender path. Lalique Suite (109 sqm) is an art deco celebration with bespoke Lalique artwork, two sitting areas, and courtyard views — sleeps six. Les Jardins Suites (139–143 sqm) are the largest, set across two levels with a master bedroom below and second bedroom above, plus a private furnished terrace and garden. Blanc de Blanc is a perennial favourite: all-white decor, crystal chandeliers, vintage furniture, inspired by a 1999 Champagne party at Versailles.
