Le Clos Sainte-Marguerite
Intimate owner-operated B&B with the feel of a private collector's home. Each room tells a different story — Burgundian farmhouse, Indian Maharaja, Art Deco glamour, Venetian grandeur. Quiet, personal, no corporate polish. Owners Estelle and Arnaud are hands-on and consistently praised by guests.

Why It Matters
Selected by both the MICHELIN Guide and Tablet Hotels. The building itself dates to the 14th century and once housed the childhood of Guigone de Salins, who co-founded the famous Hospices de Beaune in 1443. Later used by Maison Jadot to stable horses and store wine. Now converted into a tiny, deeply personal B&B where each of only five rooms has its own fully realized design identity — from Carrara marble bathrooms to Murano glass chandeliers to Designers Guild wallpapers.
A 14th-century stone house on a quiet Beaune side street that you could walk past without noticing. Duck through the heavy oak doorway and you find yourself in a flagstone courtyard with a fountain, potted plants, and a bicycle shelter. Inside, five individually themed suites — each decorated with antiques, global collectibles, and serious attention to detail — make this one of the most characterful places to sleep in all of Burgundy. Breakfast (included) is served in a beautiful salon with a zinc-topped bar crafted by coppersmith Paul Michon and an Austrian gilded bronze chandelier overhead.

On Property
How you'll actually spend your days.
Bikes available for rent. The surrounding countryside offers well-marked cycling routes through the vineyards of the Côte de Beaune.
Dijon (30 min by train), Autun, and the Monday market at Louhans are all recommended by the owners as easy day excursions. The property works well as a base for exploring Burgundy more broadly.
The famous 15th-century Hôtel-Dieu, co-founded by Guigone de Salins — who spent part of her childhood in this very building — is about 1km away on foot.
Beaune sits at the heart of Burgundy's Côte d'Or, surrounded by world-famous appellations. Dozens of négociants and domaines offer tastings in the city's labyrinth of medieval cellars, within easy walking distance of the property. Patriarche Père et Fils is the closest landmark.
