Las Alamandas
Rustic Mexican elegance with bold color. Oaxacan pottery, hand-embroidered fabrics, talavera tile, and jewel-toned walls define the aesthetic — think vibrant and handmade rather than slick and minimalist. The vibe is private estate, not resort. Staff outnumber guests by roughly 10 to 1.

Why It Matters
Featured on the cover of Architectural Digest. Named by The Robb Report 100 as one of 'Earth's Most Exclusive Retreats.' Listed in the Michelin Guide 2025 and National Geographic Traveller Coastal Collection 2025. The property operates as a nature reserve with an active sea turtle release program (August–November). The staff-to-guest ratio approaches 10 to 1 with max occupancy of 45 guests.
The backstory really is that wild. Don Antenor Patiño, the Bolivian tin magnate, bought up a vast swath of Costalegre coastline to build a mega-resort. He never finished it. His granddaughter, Isabel Goldsmith-Patiño, inherited the project and did something far more interesting: she scaled it down to just 18 suites across eight colorfully painted villas on 2,000 acres of Pacific coastline, four private beaches, and a full nature reserve. Opened in 1990, it's been a celebrity circuit favorite ever since — Brad Pitt, Sting, Cindy Crawford, Robert De Niro — and the appeal is pretty simple. This many acres for this few guests doesn't happen anywhere else in Mexico. You may not see another guest all day.
