Why It Matters
Listed in the Michelin Guide and Tablet Hotels. Won a Top 20 Hotel Restaurant award from The Times in 2014. One of the few boutique hotels in Piedmont with an in-house spa, strong wine program (5,000+ bottle cellar), and a chef-led restaurant all under one roof — in a genuinely rural setting.
La Villa is a 16th-century Piedmontese palazzo — originally a working winery — converted into a 15-room boutique hotel by British owners Chris and Nicola. It sits on a hilltop in Mombaruzzo surrounded by Monferrato vineyards, with views stretching to the Alps on a clear day. The whole place runs like a well-organized private home: antique furniture mixed with modern comforts, an intimate spa in the old wine cellars, and a seriously good restaurant called La Vie.
