La Perla
Old-money Alpine lodge meets Ladin cultural home. Traditional wooden interiors, Swiss pine floors, hand-painted furniture, and original Stuben (woodfire rooms) from the 1700s. Warm, unhurried, and genuinely family-run — the Costa family is visibly present and still greets guests personally.
The weekly welcome cocktail hosted by the Costa family in the lounge is a real tradition — don't be in your room when it happens.
Why It Matters
One of Italy's most celebrated ski-and-stay hotels. Family-run since 1956, with an active Costa family presence, a Michelin-starred restaurant (La Stüa de Michil), a wine cellar awarded Three Stars by The World of Fine Wine, and ski-in/ski-out access to the vast Dolomiti Superski circuit. It also claims the distinction of being the only Alpine resort hotel with its own motorcycle museum.
La Perla is a classic South Tyrolean mountain lodge run by the Costa family since 1956. It sits right on the edge of Corvara village in the Alta Badia valley, with the Sassongher peak looming directly overhead and the Col Alt ski lift 50 metres from the front door. There is no posturing here — no mood lighting, no Instagram-bait lobby art. What you get instead is 56 rooms decorated with the family's own ceramic cups, typewriters, hand-painted headboards, and salvaged 17th-century Stuben ceilings, plus a Michelin-starred restaurant, 30,000-bottle wine cellar, and staff who greet returning guests by name.

How you'll actually spend your days.
The Costa family's bar just steps from the hotel fills up with skiers from across Corvara from 5PM in winter. Draft beers, spritz, and a proper local crowd — not a manufactured hotel bar scene.
Hands-on cooking classes inspired by Ladin flavours. Intimate sessions where seasonal ingredients, local stories, and kitchen technique come together. Available as a standalone experience or as part of package offers.
Ernesto Costa's birthplace — a 15th-century stone farmhouse a stone's throw from the hotel. Inside: original Stuben, old stoves, handmade Ladin toys, antique skis and boots, kitchen utensils, and historic textiles. The hotel also uses it for private wine tastings and traditional dinners.
The only Alpine resort hotel with its own motorcycle museum — a collection of antique bikes that reflects the Costa family's personal passions. Unusual and genuinely interesting.
The hotel's celebrated underground wine cellar holds over 30,000 bottles from Italy, Switzerland, Austria, and France. The wine list has been awarded a Three Star rating by The World of Fine Wine. Guided visits and formal tastings are available. The Sassicaia collection alone is worth the descent.
Ski-in/ski-out via the Col Alt lift, which sits 50m from the front door and was historically the first ski lift built in Italy. The hotel plugs directly into the Dolomiti Superski Val Badia circuit — 500km of alpine slopes in the immediate area, 1,200km across the full 12-resort network. The Sellaronda loop (26km, clockwise or anti-clockwise) starts here.
The hotel offers guided spring and summer alpine walks through the surrounding landscape. Trails start directly from the property. Guided walks are included in certain packages (e.g. Spring Awakening).
A garden tree house that sleeps two and serves champagne aperitifs from 6PM. Spectacular mountain views. Ask the hotel to reserve it when you book.
