Why It Matters
Winner of the Hôtel & Lodge Awards among the 100 most beautiful hotels in the world. The only full-service hotel-spa on Île d'Yeu — a car-free island of 5,000 residents accessible only by ferry or helicopter. Designed by Pauline d'Hoop (known for Sézane boutiques), it's open year-round deliberately to serve locals as much as tourists.
A former Napoleonic garrison turned school turned hotel — it sounds like a stretch, but La Mission absolutely pulls it off. Seven low-lying buildings are connected around a central courtyard-garden with a century-old plane tree and a heated pool at the center, arranged almost like a cloister. Opened in spring 2024 by the duo behind Les Hôteliers Impertinents, it's a 4-star property with 22 rooms that leans heavily into the island's laid-back coastal DNA: white-washed stone facades, colorful shutters, rattan furniture, and a rum bar with 250+ bottles.
