Why It Matters

Named best hotel in the world multiple times by Condé Nast Traveler (US Reader's Choice). Six consecutive years on the 2026 shortlist. Winston Churchill painted here, Hitchcock filmed The Man Who Knew Too Much on its grounds, and Roosevelt stayed on Churchill's recommendation. The gardens alone — roses, orange trees, ancient olive groves — are iconic. Has 800 employees serving 209 rooms.

Open since 1923, La Mamounia is the most famous hotel in Morocco — and it knows it. Perched beside Marrakech's 12th-century ramparts and set within 8 hectares of gardens, this palace fuses Moroccan craftsmanship (zellige tiles, mashrabiya woodwork, sculpted plaster) with bold Art Deco lines. Most recently reimagined in 2020 and 2023 by designers Patrick Jouin and Sanjit Manku, the public spaces and restaurants were entirely rethought while keeping the Grande Dame's bones intact. With 209 keys, four restaurants helmed by Jean-Georges Vongerichten, Simone Zanoni, Rachid Agouray, and Pierre Hermé, a 2,500 sqm spa, and gardens that Churchill used to paint from his balcony, it earns every syllable of its legend.
