La Maison sur la Sorgue
Intimate, art-collector's home meets boutique hotel. Think globetrotting owners who've filled a 300-year-old mansion with their best finds from Zanzibar to Provence. Romantic without being fussy.
Book the Suite des Greniers if you want the most dramatic space — it's on two levels in the old grain loft with views to Mont Ventoux on clear days
Why It Matters
Listed in both the Michelin Guide and Tablet Hotels. One of the only hotels in Provence that operates as a fully functioning contemporary art gallery, with 4–5 rotating exhibitions per year. Ranked #1 hotel in L'Isle-sur-la-Sorgue on TripAdvisor. The five suites are all genuinely different — not just different wallpaper, but different furniture, different artworks, different characters.
A 17th-century private mansion in the heart of L'Isle-sur-la-Sorgue — the canal town nicknamed the Venice of Provence — turned into a five-suite boutique hotel where every wall, corridor, and common room doubles as a working art gallery. Owners Frédéric and Marie-Claude built the whole place around their passion for world travel and art collecting, and it shows: sculptures, photographs, and paintings from artists like Denis Brihat and Hans Silvester spill out of the gallery into the guest rooms. Tucked behind an unmarked door on a busy market square, the property opens up into a series of cool stone rooms, a grand salon with a fireplace, and a surprisingly generous garden courtyard with a small heated pool right on the Sorgue river.
