Why It Matters
Classified as a French Historic Monument, selected by the Michelin Guide and Tablet Hotels, and genuinely one of the finest small B&Bs in Brittany — only five rooms in a 600-year-old building, where the backstory of an explorer who was literally born on the premises infuses every design choice.
A classified Historic Monument turned five-room B&B occupying a 15th-century half-timbered house directly opposite the Basilique Saint-Sauveur. The house was born Auguste Pavie in 1847 — the barefoot French explorer who mapped Indochina — and his travels set the entire design thread: rooms named after Southeast Asian cities he visited, Oriental antiques throughout, Ginkgo Biloba motifs, and warm ochre-and-indigo tones woven through the contemporary renovation by Bachmann Associés (2010). Original granite floors, wattle-and-daub walls, and a 'pattes de lion' fireplace in the blue salon survive intact alongside Gervasoni furniture, Bang & Olufsen kit, and walk-in showers. There are only five rooms, all kept exclusively for guests.

How you'll actually spend your days.
Held every two years in July, Dinan's major medieval festival takes over the town with jousting, medieval banquets, costumed processions, and markets along the ramparts. The B&B is right in the thick of it on Place Saint-Sauveur.
A scenic 3-hour river journey by ferry between Dinan and Saint-Malo runs from May to October. Passes through villages, flower-filled meadows, and locks along the Rance. Tides dictate schedule — same-day return can be tricky, so the local tip is to take the ferry one way and bus back.
The entire medieval old town is walkable from the front door. Ramparts, Jardin Anglais (100m), the cobbled Rue du Jerzual, the well-preserved château fort, Place des Merciers, and the port of Dinan are all within easy walking distance. Hosts provide maps and local tips.
