Why It Matters
One of Puerto Rico's oldest luxury resort landmarks, originally designed in 1958 by architects Osvaldo Toro and Miguel Ferrer, whose other credits include the Tel Aviv Hilton and the Puerto Rico Supreme Court. The seashell-shaped La Perla venue by Mario Salvadori is an engineering marvel. Now part of Marriott Autograph Collection with a freshly renovated Suite Tower, new spa, and a Michelin-starred chef (Michael White) running Levant.
La Concha has been the place to see and be seen in San Juan since 1958 — and it leans into that identity hard. This is a Tropical Modernist landmark on Condado Beach where the pool scene is loud, the casino runs 24/7, and the nightclub (Fifty-Eight) doesn't open until 10pm. After a $220M renovation and a 2024 property-wide overhaul, it now carries a Marriott Autograph Collection badge and a sharp new spa. Architecturally notable: the iconic seashell-shaped building that anchors the property was engineered by Mario Salvadori and is considered a structural masterpiece.
