The Fireplace Junior Suite is the actual bungalow Marilyn Monroe used at the Wrather residence in the 1950s — book it if it's available

Why It Matters

One of Palm Springs' most architecturally significant properties, designed by William F. Cody. Won Condé Nast Traveler Readers' Choice #1 Resort in Southern California, #2 in the US, and #8 worldwide in 2017. A genuine piece of mid-century history with Marilyn Monroe's original bungalow still on site.

Built in 1952 by architect William F. Cody for Hollywood producer Jack Wrather and his actress wife Bonita Granville, L'Horizon started as a private desert retreat for A-listers — Marilyn Monroe, Betty Grable, and multiple U.S. Presidents among them. Today it's a 25-bungalow adult-only resort on three acres, radically redesigned by celebrity designer Steve Hermann into something that feels more like a private compound than a hotel. Frette linens, Le Labo toiletries, slump stone walls, copper fireplaces, and zero-edge pool views set the tone. A newer wing — the Hermann Bungalows — adds 24 more rooms with its own pool in a sleeker, more contemporary idiom.
