Why It Matters
Only 8 suites on a mountain ridge overlooking Marino Ballena National Park and the Whale's Tail sandbar. Eight suites perched on a jungle ridge above Uvita, with the Pacific Ocean laid out below and humpback whales passing through the water during migration season. Kura was built by architect Martín Wells and biologist Alejandra Umaña, who introduced tropical minimalism to Costa Rica — clean concrete lines, floor-to-ceiling glass, teak and gray slate — and got it right on the first try.
