Kocataş Mansions, İstanbul
Ottoman heritage meets wellness-forward resort. Bohemian touches (gilded café halls, salvaged artifacts) alongside clean contemporary interiors. Feels more like a private estate than a hotel.

Why It Matters
One of the most architecturally significant hotel restorations in Turkey: two 19th-century Bosphorus mansions rebuilt from near-ruin after a devastating 1997 fire. Opened by Six Senses in 2019 and now operating under Anantara / Minor Hotels. The spa — a 16,000 sq ft converted stone house — and the private boat pier are genuine differentiators from other Istanbul luxury properties.
Two sensitively restored 19th-century Ottoman mansions — Kocataş and Sait Paşa — sit side by side on a hillside in Sarıyer, looking out over the Bosphorus as it curves toward the Black Sea. The 43 rooms and suites are generously sized, decked in warm timber floors, hand-painted ceilings, and marble hammam-style bathrooms, with smart home controls and Nespresso machines keeping things squarely in the present. Up the hill, accessible by golf cart, a 16,000-sq-ft spa occupies a 100-year-old stone house on three levels. And then there's the small matter of being 20km north of central Istanbul — which is either a feature or a drawback, depending on your priorities.
