Killiecrankie House
Darkly dramatic Scottish Gothic meets Japanese precision. Owner-run and deeply personal. Vinyl plays through dinner. No corporate polish, all genuine obsession.

Why It Matters
Earned a Michelin Star in 2026. Run by chef Tom Tsappis and sommelier Matilda Ruffle, who built the operation from scratch. Named Scottish Restaurant of the Year multiple times, ranked in the global top 15 for food, wine, romance, and boutique hotels. The New York Times, FT, Telegraph, and Condé Nast Traveller have all made the pilgrimage.
Killiecrankie House is a Michelin-starred restaurant-with-rooms inside a whitewashed former manse on 4 acres of grounds in the Cairngorms National Park. There are only five bedrooms, and the whole thing runs as a single-sitting theatrical dining experience: guests arrive, pre-dinner drinks in the art-deco bar, then a surprise tasting menu of up to 20 courses blending Scottish ingredients with Japanese technique. The rooms are dark, deliberately designed, and beautiful — but food is unambiguously the point.

Guests in the Master Suite can opt to eat their tasting menu seated directly at the kitchen pass, with every dish served by the chefs themselves. It is the most immersive way to experience Tom Tsappis's cooking.
Five Scottish whiskies showcasing the breadth of regional styles and flavours, accompanied by an explanation of the distilling process. Led by the sommelier team. Custom tastings (focused on a specific style or premium expressions) and themed whisky flights at the bar are also available on request.
The 4-acre grounds include a working kitchen garden that supplies seasonal produce for the menu. Guests can wander the grounds and gardens surrounding the former manse.
Vinyl record players are installed in all communal areas including the restaurant. Music is a deliberate and important part of the experience — hand-picked playlists play throughout dinner at a volume everyone can hear.
