Maldives
Art-world energy meets barefoot luxury. Think contemporary art installations woven through lush tropical gardens, curated in-villa bookshelves, Nespresso machines and custom JOALI robes — but still with palms growing through the infinity pool deck. Creative, colorful, and surprisingly family-forward.

Why It Matters
The Maldives' first and only art-immersive resort, with more than 13 internationally commissioned site-specific works — including a Porky Hefer manta ray sculpture that doubles as a treehouse restaurant for eight. No other property in the archipelago combines a serious contemporary art programme with full family amenities and five-star dining across five venues.
JOALI Maldives is the Maldives' only art-immersive luxury resort, set on the private Muravandhoo Island in remote Raa Atoll, a 45-minute seaplane ride north of Malé. Opened in November 2018, its 73 private pool villas are packed with site-specific artworks and installations by more than 13 internationally commissioned artists — this is a beach holiday with actual cultural teeth. Recognized with One MICHELIN Key (2025) and Forbes Travel Guide Five-Star status, it competes at the very top of the Maldives market.
