Jardins Secrets
Romantic, opulent, antiquarian — equal parts French country house and Moorish fantasy. Dark, moody interiors (that's by design, not neglect), layers of antique fabrics, candlelight, and a cloister garden that makes the city noise feel a world away.
Breakfast is €28/person and not included in the room rate — but it's served in the garden, the salons, or the kitchen depending on season and is reportedly worth it (homemade cakes, served by a fireplace in winter).
Why It Matters
One of only 14 rooms in a genuinely historic 18th-century building. The spa — La Source des Secrets — is a Roman-bath-style plunge pool with a private hammam and a serious ayurvedic menu. No restaurant on site keeps things intimate; you eat at one of Nîmes's fine tables and return here to decompress. Listed in both Tablet Hotels and Vertu Hotels and Resorts.
A former 18th-century coach house sitting behind an unassuming red wall in the heart of Old Nîmes. Step through the gate and the city disappears — you're in a garden of olive trees, bougainvillea, orange and jasmine, centered on a marble antique fountain. The 14-room interior piles on 18th-century French and Andalusian Spanish antiques, chandeliers, canopy beds, silk-curtained bathtubs and five-meter ceilings that make the whole place feel less like a hotel and more like staying in a very well-appointed friend's aristocratic home.

How you'll actually spend your days.
The hotel offers its salons and intimate setting for small corporate seminars and project meetings — appealing for companies looking for atmosphere over anonymous conference rooms.
The main event for downtime. The Mediterranean garden has olive trees (some 300 years old), orange trees, palms, bougainvillea, and an antique marble fountain. The seasonal outdoor stone pool is surrounded by garden seating. Open to guests at any time.
The UNESCO-listed Cévennes forest is reachable for day hikes. Hotel concierge can advise on routes and arrange logistics.
Concierge-arranged day excursion to the Camargue National Park for guided horseback riding — a classic southern France experience, roughly an hour's drive from the hotel.
The hammam, Roman plunge pool, and treatment rooms are fully privatised per booking — no sharing with other guests. Includes ayurvedic massages, body scrubs, Japanese Kobido facials, and multi-treatment spa packages.
The hotel's location in the old town puts Les Arènes (Roman amphitheatre), the Maison Carrée temple, Tour Magne, and the Jardins de la Fontaine all within walking distance. The Pont du Gard aqueduct is less than 30 minutes by car.
The sequence of 18th-century salons and the Napoleon III bar make for an atmospheric evening in. Owners are reportedly present and share local knowledge and stories with guests. Drinks served in antique-furnished lounge spaces.
