Lisbon
Industrial-chic, eco-conscious, and genuinely youthful. Think street art lobby, raw concrete walls softened by cheerful local textiles, and a community-forward energy — the co-working space and rooftop are open to non-guests, which keeps the place buzzing with creative locals as well as travelers.
Book the rooftop pool slot for the morning — it opens at 08:00 and is far quieter than afternoon crowds. After 19:00 the pool closes and the terrace becomes 16+ only.
Why It Matters
Certified carbon-neutral building — the hotel claims to be Lisbon's most sustainable to date. Selected by both the Michelin Guide and Tablet Hotels. Parent company Nelson-Group holds B Corp certification. The rooftop pool lined with hand-painted tiles and its Tagus River views are a genuine draw.
JAM Hotels took a former warehouse on the Tagus riverbank in the Santos neighborhood and turned it into Lisbon's most certified sustainable boutique hotel, opening in 2023. Belgian artist and designer Lionel Jadot led the overhaul, keeping the industrial bones — exposed concrete, raw pipes — while layering in hand-sewn fabrics, local cork, terracotta tiles, and colorful artwork. The result is 100 rooms with no TV, no minibar, but a Bluetooth speaker in every room and a rooftop pool with sunset views over the river that guests consistently call the hotel's standout feature.
