Why It Matters
One of the few genuinely all-inclusive private island resorts in Central America. Indigenous tribes named it 'Palenque' — meaning sanctuary — centuries ago, and the island carries real archaeological significance alongside its primary rainforest. Only 5% of the island was developed; the rest is protected nature reserve.
Isla Palenque is a 400-acre private island in Panama's Gulf of Chiriquí, accessible only by a 15-minute boat ride from Boca Chica. Just 8 beachfront casitas and one 6-bedroom villa estate share the whole place — that's it. Seven beaches, over 10 miles of jungle trails, and waters where humpback whales show up to calve from July through October.

Beachfront Casita
Eight freestanding 65 sqm bungalows set in palm groves just 25 meters from Playa Palenque. Each one is designed for indoor-outdoor living: there's an open-air lounge, an outdoor soaker tub in the sand, and a rain shower under the sky. Inside you get a proper king bed, AC, ceiling fans, and a daybed that can convert for kids. The private garden has its own hammock. Good WiFi, iPads, French press coffee, and a stocked minibar round things out.

Part of the 6-room Beachfront Villa Estate on the island's east side above Playa Primera. The Garden Room has a queen bed and a private outdoor shower. Rented exclusively as part of the full Villa Estate for groups of 2–14 guests only — you cannot book individual rooms in the estate separately.

Three of the villa's six rooms. Floor-to-ceiling views into the surrounding rainforest with a glimpse of ocean beyond. Queen beds, indoor and outdoor bathing options. Furniture throughout the estate is made from native trees that have fallen naturally on the island — a small but genuine sustainability touch.

Two sunrise-facing suites at the top of the Villa Estate with direct ocean views. King beds and a luxurious indoor soaking tub set them apart from the other estate rooms. Seven accessible beaches across the island. The main beach, Playa Palenque (1.3km), is on the west side and home to the casitas and restaurant. Playa Primera is below the Villa Estate on the east side. All beaches are private and exclusive to guests.
