IRAPH SUI, a Luxury Collection Hotel, Miyako Okinawa
Minimalist island luxury. Clean white interiors with sandy hues and deep blue accents drawn from the surrounding seascape. Quiet, understated — the kind of place where the view does the talking and the staff remember your name.
The sunset champagne hour (around 5:30 PM) in the lobby bar is complimentary and the light off the water at that hour is exceptional — don't skip it
Why It Matters
The name 'IRAPH' comes from the ancient name for Irabu Island meaning 'beautifully-colored' — and the property leans hard into that identity. It's the only serious luxury hotel on Irabu Island, draws spa treatments directly from Okinawan mineral mud ('Kucha') and local salt, and keeps the room count at just 58, ensuring service stays sharp. Several suites have private plunge pools. The daily sunset champagne hour is complimentary for all guests.
IRAPH SUI sits on the southern tip of Irabu Island, about 300 kilometers southwest of Okinawa's main island — which is to say, genuinely remote. The island is connected to Miyakojima by the Irabu Ohashi Bridge, Japan's longest toll-free bridge, but getting here still requires a flight to either Miyako Airport or Shimojishima Airport (the latter just 4.9km away). The hotel opened in January 2019 as the third Luxury Collection property in Japan, owned by Mori Trust. Its 58 rooms face coral-reef waters in shades locals call 'Irabu Blue,' and interiors weave in Minsah textile motifs — the traditional Okinawan craft inspired by surrounding reefs. But the scale is intimate. This is not a sprawling mega-resort. The single restaurant, small pool, and boutique room count mean it feels closer to an exclusive hideaway than a conference hotel.
