Seven beachfront beach houses on a 300-metre stretch of private white sand in Ekas Bay, south Lombok. Each villa is a modernist take on the traditional Lumbung house — stilted, cubic, built with local teak and ironwood — with a sand-floor ground level that literally blurs inside and outside. Getting here takes about an hour from the airport and involves either a rough road or a short wooden-boat crossing; both options are part of the point.

The ground floor is literally on the sand: an open-plan living room, six-metre dining table, and full kitchen where the beach flows directly indoors. Upstairs via a gently sloping ramp are two bedrooms, each with its own private ensuite. Teak wood interiors, ironwood outdoor decking, terrazzo bathrooms, and sea-facing beds so you wake up to the ocean. No TV. Very intentionally stripped back.
