Why It Matters
An official Palm Springs Historic Landmark and Michelin Guide listed hotel. Built in 1922, the estate hosted Elizabeth Taylor, Marlon Brando, Marilyn Monroe, and Clark Gable — all by personal invitation. Melvyn's Restaurant opened in 1975 and just celebrated its 50th anniversary. Now managed by Proper Hospitality, which has freshened the rooms while keeping the Casablanca Lounge exactly as it should be.
A 1922 Spanish Colonial Revival estate turned adults-only boutique hotel, Ingleside Estate is Palm Springs' most storied Hollywood hideaway. Designed by architect George Washington Smith and once open only by personal invitation, it sits on two walled acres just one block from Palm Canyon Drive — close enough to walk everywhere, quiet enough to feel like you've left the city entirely. The estate's 30 brass-keyed rooms and suites mix terracotta, dark woods, and vintage furnishings with Aesop bath products and flat-screen TVs. The legendary Melvyn's Restaurant anchors the property with live piano seven nights a week, tableside Steak Diane, and Bananas Foster.

The step-up pick for outdoor space. Generous living area with a private sun-terrace overlooking either the lush lawn or the palm-framed mountain view. The casita vibe really kicks in here — it's the closest you get to your own private hideaway without booking a full suite.

A two-room, two-bath casita tucked into the northeast corner of the property. You enter through iron-strap hinged doors into a walled courtyard — essentially an outdoor living room with a scalloped umbrella. Inside, woven armchairs and a sage velvet sofa for lounging; Glass French doors open to a king bed and flatscreen TV. Named after Mel Haber, the legendary owner who ran Ingleside from 1975 until his death in 2016.
KingMelvyn's Suite
The top-tier option. A two-room, two-bath villa in the northeast corner, serenely positioned for total quiet. The courtyard patio has plush outdoor seating under a scalloped umbrella — mountains and palms in every direction. Inside: pintucked sage velvet sofa, woven armchairs, king bed behind French doors. The baths have been freshly done with black Waterworks fittings. Connecting rooms can expand the suite if needed. Roughly 600–700 sq ft.
