Namhae
Korean-Japanese minimalist wellness retreat, ryokan-adjacent. Quiet, couples-focused, no-rush pacing. The whole place is organized around slowing down — aromatherapy oils, hinoki wood baths, open-air soaking tubs, bamboo forest walks.
Meal times are assigned by reservation order — you're contacted the day before check-in. Don't miss it.
Why It Matters
Michelin Guide Selected property and the first outpost of the growing IJE brand. It bundles genuine wellness programming (personalized aromatherapy, in-room hinoki tubs, a communal private spa) with included kaiseki-style meals using Namhae's own seafood and produce. The architecture — designed specifically to echo the land's brick-red soil — is striking.
IJE means 'now' in Korean — a small 18-room boutique at the southern tip of Namhae County, facing the dark South Sea. The architecture is all sharp brick lines and floor-to-ceiling glass; the building turns inward toward a private courtyard and opens outward to the ocean. Dinner and breakfast come included and they're genuinely good: seasonal seafood platters, wagyu sukiyaki, and thick abalone porridge at sunrise.

On Property
How you'll actually spend your days.
At check-in, guests fill out a wellness questionnaire and staff selects a personalized aroma oil blend. The oil goes into a warmer/diffuser in the room; stones and additional diffusion accessories are provided.
A bamboo grove of roughly 1,000 trees lines the property perimeter with a walking path through it. Good for a slow pre-breakfast or post-dinner stroll — the leaves in the wind are famously the whole point.
Remote location away from major urban light pollution makes night skies a genuine draw. The open-air terrace baths and garden area are natural spots for it.
Most terrace rooms come with a firewood brazier on the private outdoor terrace. Sitting outside with a fire while looking out at the South Sea is the quintessential IJE evening.
A circular outdoor pool with South Sea views. Open seasonally (spring through autumn). One of the more visually striking elements of the property.
