Why It Matters
The world's original ice hotel, open since 1989, featured in National Geographic, BBC's Amazing Hotels, and Discovery Channel. It has hosted over one million guests, 140 couples marry here annually in the ice Ceremony Hall, and every single room in the cold section is a one-of-a-kind commissioned artwork — demolished and rebuilt from scratch every year. ICEHOTEL 365 made it year-round, cooled by solar energy in summer when the roof sprouts Arctic wildflowers.
ICEHOTEL is the world's first and largest hotel built entirely from snow and ice, sitting on the banks of the Torne River in Jukkasjärvi — a village of about 1,100 people roughly 200 km above the Arctic Circle. Each winter since 1989, artists from around the world rebuild it from scratch using ice harvested from the river; come spring, it melts right back in. But it's not just a winter gimmick. ICEHOTEL 365, opened in 2016, runs year-round in a solar-powered building that maintains −5°C even through the midnight-sun summers.

The warm accommodation option for families or groups of four. Two bedrooms (one double, one with single + pull-down bed), a lounge, kitchenette, and bathroom with shower. Decorated in Scandinavian palette — soft tones, light wood. Has a mini-fridge and microwave. Just a few minutes' walk from ICEHOTEL. Think cozy Lapland cabin, not luxury chalet — it's functional and comfortable rather than plush.

The headline room of ICEHOTEL Winter. Each Art Suite is a commissioned work of art, designed and hand-carved by artists selected from over 200 applicants worldwide. No two suites are ever the same, and all designs are destroyed and replaced each year. Like the Ice Rooms, temperature sits at around −5°C, and beds are fitted with reindeer hides and a warm sleeping bag. Guests get a private changing cubicle — not a private bathroom — in the heated Riverside Lobby. Breakfast and snowsuit loan included. December–April only.

The year-round version of the Art Suite, housed in ICEHOTEL 365 — a permanently cooled building that uses solar energy to maintain −5°C even in the summer midnight sun. Eighteen unique suites, designed by handpicked international artists. Same setup as the Winter Art Suite: reindeer hides, thermal sleeping bag, private changing cubicle in Riverside Lobby, shared saunas. The building sports a grass-covered roof in summer. In winter, it visually merges with the seasonal ICEHOTEL structure.

Named after the cloudberry (hilla in Sami), this Deluxe Suite in ICEHOTEL 365 shares the same format as Johka — a unique artist-designed ice suite with private en-suite bathroom and heated relaxation area. Four Hilla suites are available year-round. Sleeps in reindeer hides and thermal sleeping bag. Organic Arctic spa products included.

Jáuvre is the Sami word for lake. Four of these suites are available year-round in ICEHOTEL 365, each individually designed by commissioned artists. Private bathroom connected to the suite, heated relaxation area, organic spa products. Same cold-room setup: −5°C, reindeer hides, thermal sleeping bag.
Double or tripleDeluxe Suite 365 - Johka
The top-tier cold room experience and the only option with a private en-suite bathroom. Johka is the Sami word for 'river.' At 40 sqm, it's genuinely spacious for an ice room. The private relaxation area connects directly to the bedroom and includes double waterfall showers, a toilet, washbasin, and two armchairs. Designed by Marjolein Vonk and Pia Sandgren with Nordic color tones. Temperature stays at −5°C. Organic Arctic spa products provided. ICEHOTEL 365 has one Johka suite available year-round.

The entry point into sleeping on ice. These are the standard cold rooms in ICEHOTEL Winter — sleek, elegant ice architecture with no personal artistry, but still fully made of ice from the Torne River. Temperature holds around −5°C. Bed is a thick mattress covered with reindeer hides and a thermal sleeping bag. No doors — curtains provide privacy. Access to shared changing rooms, bathrooms, and saunas in the heated Riverside Lobby. Includes breakfast and a warm lingonberry juice wake-up call. Winter only: December–April.
Double, triple, or quadruple ice bedKaamos Hotel Room
Named after the eerie Arctic twilight of polar winter (kaamos), these are ICEHOTEL's standard warm hotel rooms. Natural tones, whitewashed wooden panel walls, birch accents. Large panoramic windows face the Lapland wilderness. Heated stone floors in the hallway and bathroom. The bed can be split into two twin beds. Located in low wooden buildings styled on traditional Jukkasjärvi architecture, 6–8 rooms per house. Pet-friendly.

A step up from the standard Kaamos room, the Superior adds bathrobes, a Nespresso machine, and mineral water — small upgrades that matter after a day in −20°C.
