Hunum
Modern-rustic Alpine. Think natural stone and solid wood, organic cotton sheets, wood-fired hot tubs, and Gaggia espresso machines. Designer sensibility meets mountain slowness. No lobby, no reception desk — just your own private cabin and a chestnut forest.
Order the Matlab food box upon arrival — it's a curated selection of local Valchiavenna and Valtellina products for in-cabin dinners
Why It Matters
Listed on both the Michelin Guide and Tablet Hotels. Featured in GQ Italia (September 2023). A working farm producing honey, berries, vegetables, and chestnut flour — and it shows in breakfast and the farm shop. Sustainably built with solar panels, rainwater harvesting, and solid-wood furniture designed to last. Probably the most design-forward agriturismo in the Italian Alps.
Hunum is an Alpine agriturismo unlike any other in Italy. Its founder, designer Luca Capurso, bought and restored seven stone cabins on the mid-slope hillside of Valchiavenna — the Alpine valley north of Lake Como, within sight of Switzerland — and turned them into one of the country's most singular farm stays. The name is a portmanteau of humanus, humus, and unicum: human, earthly, unique. And the place lives up to all three.
