Reino Fungi is the most architecturally bonkers of the hotels at Chile's Huilo Huilo Biological Reserve — a three-story, domed structure built to look like a giant mushroom rising out of the Patagonian rainforest floor. Inside, everything is carved from regional wood: walls, doors, stairs, even the stairwells. The rooms are simple but warm, with camp blankets and zero TV. But the whole point is outside: 240,000 acres of temperate rainforest with trail portals, a volcano, waterfalls, and wildlife including pumas and the world's smallest deer. Guests connect via a covered passage to the adjacent Nothofagus Hotel, where most amenities live.

Interconnected Rooms
Reino Fungi is the only hotel in the Huilo Huilo reserve with rooms connected by an internal door — 6 pairs of them. Standard or Superior rooms joined together, making this the go-to for families traveling with kids. Same wood-heavy aesthetic and forest-facing balconies.
Standard Room
Compact rooms on the 1st or 2nd floor of the mushroom-shaped lodge. All wood interiors, private bathroom with standing shower, private balcony with views over the reserve. No TV — the idea is to look out the window instead. Beds can be configured as double or twin. No space for an extra bed.

Larger rooms on the 1st, 2nd, or 3rd floor — nearly double the square footage of the Standard. Room for an extra bed, which makes these the pick for families or anyone who wants to actually spread out. Same all-wood aesthetic, private balcony, and standing shower. Beds can be double or twin.

The reserve protects Valdivian temperate rainforest with abundant bird species. Huemuls (endangered deer), pumas, kodkod cats, pudús (world's smallest deer), Darwin's frogs, and abundant bird life are monitored and protected throughout.
Zipline through the treetops of the Valdivian rainforest. Available as a guided activity through the Excursion Center.
Aerial cable car ride across the reserve to a panoramic viewpoint above the forest canopy. Accessible from the Portal de los Ciervos area.
Fly fishing on pristine Patagonian rivers within the reserve. One of the region's signature activities given the quality of the waterways.
Half-day guided excursions available through the Excursion Center on the ground floor of Nothofagus Hotel. Options include rafting, trekking, canopy, kayaking, mountain biking, and horseback riding. Access to 5+ trail portals included in room rate: Portal Huilo Huilo (Huilo Huilo, Trufúl & Botanical trails), Portal El Puma (Puma trail), Portal La Leona (La Leona, Hoffman & Del Poeta trails), Portal Bosque de los Ciervos (deer & boar hatcheries, amphibian diffusion, Rakin Mapu Volcano Museum), and Portal Caverna Volcánica (Llallalca Waterfalls & Geological trail). Not all portals are within walking distance — two are in Neltume, and Caverna Volcánica is 2 km away.
In winter, the nearby Mocho-Choshuenco volcano (20 km away) offers skiing and snowboarding with PistenBully/moto/UTV transport to the snow. Volcano-at-sunset tours also available in winter.
