of Finn Juhl Hakuba
Mid-century Danish modernism meets Japanese mountain hospitality. Think sculptural lounge chairs next to mountain views, complimentary sake on arrival, and organic local snacks on the bar. More design gallery than grand resort — in the best possible way.
Ask staff (Yuka and Harry, per guest reviews) to book local restaurants well in advance — popular Echoland spots fill fast
Why It Matters
The world's first boutique hotel furnished exclusively with authentic Finn Juhl furniture. Every room is built around an iconic piece: the Chieftain Chair, Poet Sofa, Pelican Chair, Japan Sofa, France Chair. The lounge showcases pieces like the Baker Sofa, Chieftain Chair, and Cocktail Table side by side. Beds are from Danish brand GETAMA, linens by Georg Jensen Damask. The Onecollection co-founders bought an old ski lodge on a whim — and created something genuinely singular.
A converted ski lodge in Hakuba's Echoland neighbourhood, turned into the world's first boutique hotel furnished entirely with Finn Juhl furniture. Opened December 2016 after a full renovation by Onecollection — the Danish furniture company that holds the rights to produce Finn Juhl's designs, some of which are actually made in Japanese workshops. Five rooms, each named after a signature Finn Juhl piece, sit inside a building dressed in black-painted wood, exposed beams, and divided light windows that contrast neatly with light timber floors and white walls. It is intimate and B&B-like in scale, and that is entirely the point.
