Hotelito At MUSA
Tropical modernist eco-retreat. Polished concrete, parota wood, handmade black terrazzo tiles crafted onsite from local stone. Wabi-sabi meets Mexican modernism. Art-forward, surf-adjacent, sustainability-first. Think airy minimalism with a strong social conscience — artist-in-residence programs, a regenerative farm, a chef-in-residence rotation, solar panels, and a zero-plastic policy baked into daily operations.

Why It Matters
MUSA is as much an idea as a hotel. The founders sat down with local communities before the first guest checked in to ask how they could help — then installed fiber-optic cable in local schools and adopted existing reforestation programs. Over 3,000 trees planted. Artificial reef regenerating sea life. Staff hired directly from local communities, especially women. Art collection features Brian Eno, Ricky Lee Gordon, Rachel Garrard, and artists from the on-site residency program. One of the most genuinely community-rooted luxury openings in recent Mexican hospitality.
Thirteen rooms on 177 acres of iron-rich Pacific coastline in Guerrero — Hotelito is the hospitality heart of MUSA (Modern Utopian Society of Adventurers), a design-forward community project founded by architect Andrés Saavedra and Canadian entrepreneur Tara Medina. Opened in March 2023, it's genuinely remote: 45 minutes from Zihuatanejo airport down a road that winds past farms, chalk-white salt flats, and jungle. Every room has an open-air bathroom, a private plunge pool, and original artwork. The founders actually live here, which shows.

Snorkeling gear available for additional rental.

Hotelito's surf instructors guide guests on the Loma Bonita beachfront wave or arrange day trips to La Saladita — one of Mexico's most celebrated left-hand breaks, attracting both beginners and experienced surfers.
Join the release of baby Leatherback, Green, and Olive Ridley sea turtles into the Pacific. Run in partnership with La Tortuga Viva, a community-led conservation initiative operating since 2010. A rare, grounding experience — all proceeds support the sanctuary and surrounding communities.
