Hotel Weisses Kreuz
Modern Alpine design hotel with deep historical bones. Think minimalist grey tones and smoked oak against 800-year-old walls, gothic parlours repurposed as bedrooms, and a spa built from local Sarner porphyry quartz rock. Quiet, slow, and genuinely grown-up.
Book Mamesa well in advance — it only seats 6 tables and operates Wednesday to Saturday evenings
Why It Matters
Six-generation family ownership since 1871; fine dining restaurant Mamesa earning 4 Gault Millau toques and 90/100 from La Liste in 2025; adults-only policy (from age 14); and three architecturally distinct buildings spanning 800 years of history unified under one hotel.
Hotel Weisses Kreuz is an adults-only, 4-star design hotel in the medieval village of Burgusio (Burgeis) at 1,200 metres in South Tyrol's Venosta Valley. The Theiner family has owned this place since 1871 — six generations, starting from a village grocery store and growing into what is now a serious design-forward retreat with 47 rooms and suites spread across four interconnected buildings. The anchor building is the Mansion zum Löwen, an 800-year-old Renaissance residence renovated with exposed concrete, gothic parlours, and walnut beams. The newest wing arrived in 2022. Chef Marc Bernhart runs the fine dining restaurant Mamesa, rated 18 points and 4 toques by Gault Millau South Tyrol 2026, and the 1,300 sqm Aura Mea spa with a 20-metre heated infinity pool overlooking the Ortler massif makes this a real wellness destination.
