Why It Matters
Listed Historic Heritage of San Sebastián, one of the few hotels in Spain's food capital that actively steers guests toward the city's Michelin-starred restaurants rather than keeping them in-house. Basque art collection throughout. Garden designed by the Royal Palace gardener.
A 19th-century merchant villa converted into a 25-room boutique hotel, Villa Soro sits in the residential Gros neighbourhood on a tree-lined street. The building — listed as Historical Heritage of San Sebastián — was built in 1898 for the Londaiz family and opened as a hotel in 2003. Fifteen rooms are in the original villa, ten in the converted stables next door. The garden, designed by Pierre Ducasse (the same gardener who laid out the Miramar, Aiete, and Cristina Enea parks for the Royal Palace), makes this the only hotel in San Sebastián that genuinely feels like you're in the countryside while being a 15-minute walk from the Old Town and five minutes from Zurriola Beach.

How you'll actually spend your days.
The hotel maintains a permanent collection of Basque art — including works by Jorge Oteiza — throughout the villa and gardens. Rotating temporary exhibitions by contemporary Basque artists like Iñigo Manterola are also staged.
The hotel sits at the edge of San Sebastián's flat beach running path, which links all three city beaches (Zurriola, La Concha, Ondarreta). Routes range from 3km to 20km along the seafront.
Free bikes for guests to explore San Sebastián's 75km bike-lane network, which runs past the hotel. Staff can recommend routes including coastal rides and epic Basque Country climbs used in the Tour de France.
A coastal hiking route that begins directly from the hotel gate, crossing Mount Ulía to the historic port town of Pasaia. The reward at the end: a boat across the harbour into the old village of Pasajes San Juan, where time seems to have stopped.
The hotel concierge helps arrange cookery classes in San Sebastián — traditional Basque, modern, or pintxos-focused. Not run by the hotel itself but curated for guests.
The bar stocks 16 references from small independent Rioja Alavesa wineries, paired with local delicatessen products. Staff guide guests through selections as part of an informal enotourism experience.
