Hotel Villa Cipriani
Old-money Italian countryside. Antique furniture, parquet floors, bathrooms tiled in hand-painted Vietri sul Mare ceramics, and a garden that has been drawing celebrity guests since the dolce vita era. The atmosphere is quiet, unhurried, and resolutely analog.

Why It Matters
One of the few hotels in the Veneto where the garden is genuinely as talked-about as the rooms. The infinity pool won Best Italian Pool at the 2014 Italian Pool Award. The American Bar was designed by Giuseppe Cipriani himself in the 1960s and still serves proper Bellinis. And the guest book reads like a mid-century film festival: Orson Welles, Peter O'Toole, Marcello Mastroianni, Vittorio De Sica. It is a Preferred Hotels & Resorts member and listed on Historic Hotels of Europe.
Hotel Villa Cipriani sits just inside the medieval walls of Asolo — a small hilltop town in the Veneto that the Venetian upper class have used as their escape hatch for centuries. The hotel itself dates to the 16th century and was once home to English poet Robert Browning; it was transformed into a hotel in 1962 by Rupert Guinness and Giuseppe Cipriani (the same Cipriani who founded Harry's Bar in Venice). The result is a 28-room property that feels less like a hotel and more like staying at a well-appointed country estate whose owners happen to have impeccable taste.
