Why It Matters
Rebuilt from scratch in 2016 as a certified Bike Hotel, with a design genuinely inspired by the surrounding mountain landscape. The Sky SPA's rooftop whirlpool at 33°C overlooking the Dolomites on both sides is a standout feature. Weekly traditional Cëna Ladina dinners add real local character. 300m from the Piz Sorega lift, and breakfast and a 4-course dinner are included in the room rate.
Hotel Tofana is a 4-star, third-generation family hotel in the heart of San Cassiano at 1,534m, completely rebuilt in 2016. Run by Günther and Verena Frena, it leans hard into the outdoors — skiing, mountain biking, road cycling, hiking — and backs it up with a rooftop Sky SPA and a genuinely good kitchen serving Ladin and Mediterranean cuisine. The design takes its cues from the angular Dolomite peaks: clean geometric lines, large panoramic window facades, and warm oak floors that keep the whole thing from feeling sterile.

Cross-country skiing routes are accessible in the San Cassiano / Alta Badia area, and the hotel provides information and guidance for guests.
The hotel is 300m from the Piz Sorega gondola and provides an in-house ski cellar, free ski depot at the Piz Sorega lower terminus, and a shuttle to lifts running 8:30–10:00 in the morning and 15:00–17:00 in the afternoon. Alta Badia links into the enormous Dolomiti Superski circuit, including the famous Sellaronda loop.
Weekly guided hiking tours are included in the room rate. The hotel provides tips and information on walking routes throughout the Dolomites, covering the Alta Badia area including the Armentara meadows and surrounding peaks.
As a certified Bike Hotel, mountain biking is taken seriously here. E-bike rental is available directly at the hotel. Owner Günther is a keen mountain biker and provides GPX tracks on request. Guided biking tours are also organised. The bike storage facility has CCTV, a repair corner with tools, and a dedicated washing area for muddy bikes.
Guided road cycling tours are organised through the hotel. The Alta Badia valley and surrounding Dolomite passes are prime road cycling territory, including routes on the Maratona dles Dolomites race circuit.
The hotel's dedicated Yoga & Pilates studio has a panoramic mountain view and offers classes during the stay. The studio is described as bright and quiet with a focus on well-being and awareness.
