Why It Matters
One of very few hotels in Krakow built within the walls of a 17th-century Baroque church and later boys' school. Original architectural elements — stone portals, vaulted ceilings — are visible throughout the guest rooms. Direct relationship with the Juliusz Słowacki Theater, Poland's most celebrated opera house, which is literally across the street.
Hotel Teatr sits inside a building that was once the church of St. Scholastica, founded in 1648, then rebuilt in the second half of the 19th century as a four-classroom boys' school. After a thorough renovation that uncovered Baroque stonework, old portals, and original ceiling details, it now operates as a four-star boutique hotel with 15 individually designed rooms and one expansive Luxury Suite. The name refers directly to the grand Juliusz Słowacki Theater directly across the street.
