Hotel Straf
Arte Povera-inspired industrial minimalism. Urban, design-forward, and genuinely art-world adjacent — with a bar that doubles as a music venue with Duomo views.
The STRAFbar is open to the public — worth stopping in for aperitivo at 6pm even if you're not staying
Why It Matters
The first significant architectural transformation by Vincenzo De Cotiis — since celebrated as one of Italy's foremost designer-artists. Rooms are conceived as an art exhibition rather than hotel accommodation, with original De Cotiis artworks in every space. The STRAFbar is a genuine Milan hangout, not a hotel afterthought.
Inside a 19th-century Milanese palazzo on a quiet side street 50 metres from the Duomo, architect and artist Vincenzo De Cotiis turned this 64-room hotel into a lived-in art installation. Raw cement, burnished brass, black slate, scratched mirrors, and aged glass are the palette — not marble and chandeliers. It's the hotel that put De Cotiis on the map, and it still pulls in Milan's art and fashion crowd who want character over conventional luxury.

How you'll actually spend your days.
Throughout the week, the STRAFbar hosts DJ sets and live music performances. Daytime sees a curated vintage music track; from dusk the energy ratchets up. The 'street happy hour' carries into the evening. An eclectic international and local crowd makes it a proper scene rather than a hotel bar.
The hotel offers a dedicated co-working space (STRAFhub) — useful for remote workers and business travelers who don't want to be confined to their room or a generic café.
When the Duomo bells sound 6pm, the STRAF mixologist kicks into gear. Classic Italian aperitivo — Aperol Spritz, Americano, alcohol-free Negroni — with snacks on a terrace with Duomo spire views. A reliable evening ritual regardless of what else Milan has on.
