Why It Matters
Designed by GRAFT Architects (a firm with celebrity cachet — Brad Pitt co-founded it), the hotel won the Travel & Leisure Design Award for best design hotel in the world. The signature move: bathtubs set directly adjacent to the bed, separated only by a slate partition. High-design rooms at decidedly non-Milan prices.
Hotel Q! is a 4-star design hotel in Berlin's Charlottenburg neighbourhood, about 60 metres from the Kurfürstendamm. The exterior is deliberately plain — almost anonymous — but step inside and you get the full GRAFT architects treatment: sweeping organic curves, dark smoked oak, slate, and creamy faux-ostrich leather all flowing into one another. Seventy-seven rooms, a Thai restaurant, a red-hued Fox! Bar with a working fireplace, and a compact but well-thought-out spa. Solid value for a design-forward stay in a prime West Berlin location.
