Puerta America
Avant-garde architectural showcase. Every floor is a different creative universe — from Hadid's space-age curves to Foster's hi-tech minimalism to Mariscal's playful colors. The vibe is bold, design-obsessed, and slightly cerebral.
Ask specifically for a room on the floor whose designer most appeals to you — they really are radically different, and the floor/bed type is subject to availability unless you book a specific room type.
Why It Matters
The only hotel in the world where 19 internationally acclaimed architects — including five Pritzker Prize winners — each designed a full floor with zero budget ceiling and total creative freedom. The Jean Nouvel colorful facade, John Pawson lobby, Zaha Hadid first floor, and Norman Foster second floor alone make it worth visiting even without staying.
Hotel Puerta America is one of the world's most ambitious experiments in architectural collaboration. Opened in 2006, the 315-room property commissioned 19 architects and designers from 13 countries — including Zaha Hadid, Norman Foster, and Jean Nouvel, three Pritzker Prize winners — to each design an entire floor from scratch, with full creative freedom. John Pawson's stark white lobby gives you almost no preview of what lies above. Ride up a floor and you're in Zaha Hadid's sci-fi world of fluid white curves and free-standing bathtubs. Go up to the 7th and Ron Arad's Hi-Macs polymer surfaces seem to grow directly from the walls. It's a genuine design pilgrimage, though guests who need a desk, drawers, and easy-to-find light switches may find the artistry occasionally trumps function.

On Property
How you'll actually spend your days.
14 meeting rooms with bespoke design settings, making this one of the more visually striking business event venues in Madrid. The hotel also has 1,700 square meters of event space including conference and banquet facilities.
Freshwater outdoor pool on the hotel grounds, open May 29 through September 15. From 11:00 to 20:00 daily, with Friday–Sunday only access until June 14. The Liquid 41 poolside bar serves cocktails and snacks alongside the pool.
Each floor of the hotel is a completely distinct architectural experience — 13 floors, 19 designers. Walk the corridors from John Pawson's lobby to Norman Foster's minimalist 2nd floor, Zaha Hadid's sci-fi 1st floor, Ron Arad's polymer-surfaced 7th, Marc Newson's 6th, and Jean Nouvel's colorful penthouse. Hotel staff have been known to offer guided tours of the floors.
Dinner at The Observatory on the penthouse floor, surrounded by one of Europe's largest interior vertical gardens. The combination of haute cuisine seafood dishes and the sheer spectacle of the garden and views makes it a destination experience on its own.
