A former factory (reportedly a vinyl record plant) turned industrial-chic boutique hotel, sitting just off Exit 9 of the NY Thruway in Nyack, about 19 miles from Manhattan. The bones are impressive: vaulted ceilings, 11-foot loft-style rooms, oversized windows. But the interiors layer in patterned wallpaper, Oriental rugs, Chesterfield sofas, and local art to keep things from feeling cold. Cross the Tappan Zee Bridge and you're technically upstate without actually being far from anything.
