Hotel Lilien
Eclectic mountain lodge meets well-curated Brooklyn sensibility. Dark woodwork, vintage maps, mid-century design pieces, and an ever-rotating collection of work by New York artists. It reads more like a lovingly kept private home than a hotel — warm without trying too hard.

Why It Matters
Built by the Lost Boys Hospitality Group (known for cult properties in Panama), Hotel Lilien brought genuine design credibility to the Catskills when it opened in 2022. It's been covered by Vogue, Condé Nast Traveler, Architectural Digest, and the New York Times. The bar is open to the public and functions as a genuine local gathering spot — rare for a boutique hotel of this caliber.
An 1890s Victorian mansion turned 22-room boutique hotel in Tannersville, New York, named for Meta Lilienthal — a 14-year-old girl who moved into this 19,000-square-foot summer estate in the 1890s. San Francisco design firm Field Theory spent over a year curating the place: antique Persian rugs, mid-century furniture, stained glass windows, wood-paneled walls with a century of patina, and a sprawling burl-wood bar. No TVs. That's intentional.
