Why It Matters
The sole 5-star property in Cervinia, a Relais & Châteaux member since 1994, and one of the founding luxury ski hotels in the Italian Alps. La Chandelle has earned Michelin recognition. The spa uses exclusive Bellefontaine Swiss skincare — the first hotel in Italy to partner with the brand. Slopes are 300 metres from the front door.
The only 5-star hotel in Cervinia, Hotel Hermitage has been family-run for over 50 years at the foot of the Matterhorn. Dark wood panelling, antique furniture, a big always-lit fireplace in the hall — it reads like a grand mountain chalet, not a corporate ski hotel. The 38 rooms range from cosy classic doubles to sprawling 70–80 sqm master suites, all with balconies pointed at the peaks. La Chandelle, the in-house restaurant, holds a 2025 Michelin Guide listing and Gambero Rosso 2 forks.

Classic Room
The entry-level room at the Hermitage, but still seriously comfortable. At 25–30 sqm, it fits a king-size bed with finely decorated duvets, a sofa or armchair, and a large bathroom with a bathtub or shower. Every room gets a balcony with Matterhorn views. Traditional alpine decor throughout — wood, warm fabrics, antique details.

Deluxe Room
A step up in space at 35–40 sqm, with all the light of the mountain and all the warmth of the wood. Comfortable for two or three guests — there's a king-size bed, a sofa bed, armchair, and coffee table. The bathroom is spacious with bathtub or shower, and the balcony delivers a panoramic mountain view.

For larger groups or families needing extra space. Connecting room configurations allow up to 6 guests. Ideal for families who want the luxury of the Hermitage but need the practicality of multiple bedrooms.
Junior Suite
The step between Deluxe Rooms and Prestige Suites. Accommodates up to 3 guests with a more generous layout and upgraded furnishings. Alpine style throughout, with balcony access.

The flagship accommodation, running 70–80 sqm — genuinely spacious by any standard. King-size bed, generous living space, and balcony with panoramic views of either the Matterhorn or the Grandes Murailles. For two guests only, so this is a couples retreat. The Breuil-Cervinia ski area is 300m from the hotel front door — a short walk or free on-demand shuttle. The interconnected area with Valtournenche and Zermatt adds up to 360km of pistes reaching Klein Matterhorn at 3,900m. Intermediate-friendly cruising terrain is the dominant flavour, though expert runs exist. 72 slopes in the Italian area alone, 200km with snowmaking infrastructure.

Year-round skiing is possible on the Plateau Rosa glacier, accessible from the ski lifts near the hotel. A rare summer ski option at altitude.
In summer, the hotel grounds have sun loungers, deck chairs with towels and cushions, and a small garden chalet for aperitifs. The Bistrot serves out here in warm weather.
The hotel grounds and surrounding landscape open up in summer for mountain biking and guided walking excursions. Ibex, chamois, and marmots frequent the trails.
