Hotel Habita
Urban minimalist — glass, light, and deliberate restraint. Modernist architecture meets Mexican contemporary art. The crowd is design-literate and cosmopolitan.
Book the Junior Suite if size matters — at 34 sqm with its own living area and soaking tub, it's a different hotel from the Superior Queen
Why It Matters
The hotel that launched Grupo Habita and put design-forward boutique hospitality on the map in Mexico City. Its frosted glass façade by TEN Arquitectos is an architectural landmark on Polanco's most prestigious avenue. A Design Hotels™ and Marriott Bonvoy member since opening.
Hotel Habita opened in 2000 as Mexico City's first contemporary design hotel, and it still turns heads on Masaryk. The five-story structure — a converted 1950s apartment block — is encased in a sheath of frosted glass by TEN Arquitectos (Enrique Norten and Bernardo Gómez-Pimienta), which glows like a paper lantern at night and shifts like a block of ice during the day. Inside, 36 rooms strip everything back to a bed, Eames chairs, and a cantilevered glass plane serving as a desk, while original art by Jan Hendrix and Silvia Gruner keeps it from feeling sterile. The rooftop pool and bar with panoramic city views is the unambiguous highlight.

Every evening, art films are projected onto the wall adjacent to the rooftop terrace. A signature touch that sets the AREA bar apart from a standard hotel rooftop.

The AREA rooftop bar regularly features resident DJs alongside cocktail service and ambient music as evening sets in. The terrace fits 180 in cocktail format.
