Hotel de la Coupole
French Indochine Art Deco meets hill tribe maximalism. Bold, theatrical, and colour-saturated — feels more like a haute couture fashion house than a mountain hotel. Designed with theatrical intention by Bill Bensley, with no surface left plain.
The Absinthe rooftop bar is open to non-guests and is arguably the best sundowner spot in Sapa — worth the tab even if you're staying elsewhere
Why It Matters
Named 2nd Best Hotel in Southeast Asia 2025 by Condé Nast Traveler, and winner of Haute Grandeur's Best Design Hotel & Best New Hotel in Vietnam (2019). It's the only international 5-star property in Sapa, with direct access to the Fansipan cable car. The rooftop Absinthe bar, with its outdoor fireplace and panoramic mountain views, is genuinely worth visiting even if you're not staying.
Opened in December 2018 and designed by Bill Bensley, Hotel de la Coupole is Sapa's only international 5-star hotel — a 249-room Art Deco fantasy where French Indochine glamour collides with H'Mong hill tribe colour. Every floor tells a story: mustard walls, jade-green accents, magenta bars, and cerulean-blue suites, all packed with antiques, tribal motifs, and vintage fashion pieces. It's the kind of place where the lobby itself stops you in your tracks.
