Hotel d'Inghilterra
Historic aristocratic palazzo meets considered Italian luxury. Think antique furniture layered with rich velvet and fine marble, curated craft works throughout, and a distinctly old-Rome gentlemen's club feel in the bar — updated just enough to feel fresh but not stripped of character.
Superior rooms are the entry-level category and can be compact (18-24 sqm) — if budget allows, step up to a Deluxe or Junior Suite for significantly more comfort
Why It Matters
One of Rome's oldest and most celebrated hotels, operating since 1845 out of a former Torlonia family palace. The 2024 restoration was executed with Italian master craftsmen under the 'La Grande Bellezza – The Dream Factory' patronage project. Forbes Four-Star 2026. Member of Small Luxury Hotels of the World and Virtuoso Preferred.
A 16th-century Roman palazzo on a quiet pedestrian street steps from the Spanish Steps, Hotel d'Inghilterra has been welcoming writers and celebrities since 1845 — Mark Twain, Henry James, Elizabeth Taylor, and Gregory Peck all stayed here. The hotel reopened in 2024 after a head-to-toe renovation that restored its aristocratic grandeur: Murano glass chandeliers, bespoke wallpaper, velvet furnishings, and decorative mosaics handcrafted by Roman artisans. It now holds Forbes Travel Guide's Four-Star Award for 2026 and sits in the heart of the city's fashion district between Via Condotti and Via Frattina.
