Book Room 47 (Molja Lighthouse) well in advance — it's one room and it sells out. The hotel recommends just one night as a standalone experience, combined with a regular room for longer stays.

Why It Matters

The Snøhetta conversion preserved the warehouse bones while creating a genuinely individual hotel where no two rooms are identical. The Molja Lighthouse (Room 47) — a decommissioned 150-year-old lighthouse at the end of the city jetty — is the most talked-about room in Ålesund and has appeared in design and travel magazines worldwide. Also listed with the Michelin Guide.

Two former fish-packing warehouses built after Ålesund's great fire of 1904, converted by architecture firm Snøhetta into a 131-room boutique hotel. The outer walls extend directly over the Brosundet canal — you're essentially floating above the water. Family-owned and independently operated, it sits in the heart of Ålesund's Art Nouveau district with original wood beams and exposed brick intact.
