Hotel Arbaso occupies a protected 19th-century neoclassical building directly across from Buen Pastor Cathedral in San Sebastián's Centro neighborhood. Opened in 2020 by local studio FIARK Arquitectos and run by three sisters, this independent 50-room property goes deep on Basque identity — 'arbaso' means ancestors in Basque, and that ethos shows in every detail, from the Markina black marble quarry photograph installed as lobby art to the staff uniforms hand-stitched by local designer Irati Guarretxena. The lobby doubles as a cocktail bar around a wood-burning fireplace, the reception table modeled on traditional Basque dinner tables. Narru restaurant on the ground floor is Michelin Guide-listed and pulls non-hotel guests too. La Concha beach is less than a five-minute walk away.
