Private Members' Club With Hotel
Insider Tip
1/5

Non-members can book rooms directly online and receive full honorary member access for their stay — this is genuinely the best way to experience the club without a membership

Why It Matters

One of London's oldest and most famous private members' clubs, open to non-members as hotel guests. Each of the 23 rooms is named after a real former resident — Anthony Blunt (the Cambridge Five spy who was bugged by MI5 in room), the Maharajah of Baroda (whose bath now sits in the Duke of Atholl suite), the Countess of Home herself. The architecture is Grade I listed, designed by Robert Adam for the Countess of Home in the 1770s. Zaha Hadid designed the bar at the contemporary House 21 extension.

Home House has been one of London's most storied private members' clubs since 1998, spread across three interconnected Georgian townhouses on Portman Square in Marylebone. The original No. 20 is a Grade I-listed Robert Adam masterpiece from the 1770s, and the interiors genuinely deliver: antique crystal chandeliers, hand-painted silk wallpaper, a spectacular spiral staircase rising to a glass dome. Non-members can book one of the 23 bedrooms and get treated as honorary members for the duration of their stay — full access to the bars, restaurant, gym, and whatever is happening downstairs in The Vaults.

Club Room

The entry-level rooms at Home House, though 'entry-level' is relative. Each one has a distinct name and character — heavy period fabrics, original fireplaces, and bathrooms that often contain some genuinely historic fixture. The Lady Elizabeth has a half-tester bed with Gainsborough silk curtains from one of the last traditional weavers in England and a reclaimed chandelier. Mr Bulmer's has a sweeping bay window overlooking the courtyard garden. The Lady Susan Thorpe features sweet pea wallpaper and marine-life bathroom taps.

Duke of Newcastle Suite

Light and airy, with four large Georgian sash windows looking directly onto Portman Square. The room features the actual mirror belonging to the 4th Duke of Newcastle, who lived here from 1820 to 1861, alongside a stunning half-tester bed. Note: it's one of the more exposed rooms to noise from events below — confirmed by guest reviews.

Feature Room

A step up in size and drama. The Anthony Blunt room has a mahogany bed and a Victorian-style bathroom with a double monastery basin in black marble — you can reportedly still see where MI5 planted listening devices to monitor the spy. Samuel Courtauld features a silver-leaf ceiling and a bathroom with a bath originally made for Claridge's but never used. Earl Grey has a 1920s canopy bath. The Terrace Room comes with its own private balcony over the Marylebone rooftops and can connect with the adjacent Mr. Attwick's room to form an entire floor apartment.

James Wyatt Suite

The best room in the house, and one that justifies the name. At 60sqm, it has its own private lift access, a sitting room decorated in muted coffee and bronze tones with a full sound system, a super king bed with garden views, and two separate bathrooms. With a sound system installed and a layout that encourages late guests, it's billed as the perfect party suite.

These are where the truly remarkable bathrooms show up. Lady Islington's bathroom is lined in the same deep red marble used in the floor of St Paul's Cathedral dome — it was installed in 1922. The room itself has a mahogany four-poster bed overlooking the Garden. Caroline's suite has its own separate lounge and looks out onto the mews. Flora's suite takes an Art Deco tone with a gleaming brass bed and a quirky round window. The Duke of Atholl suite houses a bath that once belonged to the Maharajah Gaekwad of Baroda.
