Le Telfair Golf & Wellness Resort
French colonial plantation elegance with genuine historical provenance. Understated luxury rather than flashy excess. Christian Lacroix artwork in every suite, four-poster beds, butler service at the junior level and above. Member of Small Luxury Hotels of the World. The adult-only wing (added in 2024) adds a more contemporary, pared-back option within the same resort.

Why It Matters
The only resort in Mauritius sitting on a legitimate 19th-century sugar estate with documented historical ties to its namesake. Access to the Heritage Golf Club — the Indian Ocean's only 45-hole complex, hosting DP World Tour events, plus La Réserve Golf Links, the region's only contemporary links course co-designed by Open Champion Louis Oosthuizen. All suites feature original Christian Lacroix artwork. The 1,300-hectare Bel Ombre Nature Reserve, protected by UNESCO, surrounds the property.
Heritage Le Telfair sits on the former Domaine de Bel Ombre sugar estate on Mauritius's south coast — a setting with actual history behind it. The resort is named after Charles Telfair, a real 19th-century Irish botanist and physician who lived here, and the colonial French plantation architecture isn't just aesthetic window dressing: the bones of the estate are genuinely old. Every suite features original Christian Lacroix artwork, four-poster beds, and freestanding baths. The south coast location is quieter and less developed than the island's north or west — which is the point. Trade winds can make the sea choppier than the postcard side of Mauritius, but the 1,300-hectare Bel Ombre Nature Reserve, an award-winning 45-hole golf complex, and the Seven Colours Spa give you plenty to do beyond the beach.
