Haubers Naturresort
Alpine wellness sanctuary with a strong nature-first ethos. Rooms carry evocative local names like Kuhhimmel and Bergheu, furnished with old wood and fine leather. The vibe is calm, unhurried, and distinctly Allgäu — not a flashy spa hotel, but a place that takes its terrain seriously. Adults-only atmosphere (wellness area from age 16).
Book the Bergfrühstück am Schwalbennest in advance — it runs once a week and fills up. Breakfast at 950 m with Hochgrat panorama is a genuine highlight.
Why It Matters
One of the Allgäu's most awarded wellness resorts, recognized by the RELAX Guide (highest regional rating), Michelin 2025 (Green Star for sustainability), Falstaff Travel, and Wellness Aphrodite Award. The signature Allgäuer Heubad — guests are wrapped in warm, fragrant mountain hay harvested from the hotel's own unfertilized alpine meadows — is genuinely unique. Direct golf course access from the property and a 2.5 km private hiking trail (Klimapfad) up to a viewpoint at 950 m altitude round out a resort that makes a real case for staying put.
Haubers Naturresort is a family-run 4-Star Superior wellness resort on the southern slope of the Meerau in the Allgäu, with 60+ hectares of its own land, a private 2,500 m² natural lake, and a spa building called Haus am See opened in 2015. The Hauber family has operated it since the 1970s and has woven their own mountain hay harvest, 17 hectares of managed mixed forest, and on-site beekeeping directly into the wellness and dining concept. The kitchen holds a Michelin Green Star for sustainable gastronomy. Note: Parts of the resort are currently undergoing renovation, expected to be complete by end of 2026.

How you'll actually spend your days.
Bike tours directly from the hotel into the Allgäu. The area offers both gentle valley rides and demanding mountain routes.
Four fasting modalities offered year-round with medical/practitioner supervision: classical Buchinger fasting (Heilfasten), alkaline fasting (Basenfasten), Schroth cure (a traditional Allgäu method combining fasting, compresses, and dry/drinking days), and 16:8 intermittent fasting. All programmes include dietary menus, therapeutic applications, and guided activity.
Direct tee-off access to the Golfclub Oberstaufen-Steibis from the hotel grounds — no driving to a course, no tee time required in the mornings. Complimentary greenfees on 5+ regional courses (including Riefensberg in Austria) as part of Oberstaufen PLUS GOLF guest card.
Weekly guided hikes with hotel staff into the surrounding Allgäu mountains. Year-round program including spring flower meadow walks, autumn colour hikes, and winter snowshoe tours.
The hotel's own 2.5 km private hiking and strolling path that leads up to the Schwalbennest viewpoint at 950 m. Along the route: forest hammocks, a tree-planting area, wildflower meadows, and benches with panoramic Alpine views. A walking meditation experience built into the daily schedule.
Guided walks to learn about the local alpine herbs used in the hotel's spa and kitchen. Seasonal offering.
Guided forest bathing sessions in the hotel's 17-hectare private mixed forest of firs, beech, spruce, maple, and ash trees. A slow, meditative immersion in the woodland — no hiking pace, just presence.
Lap swimming coaching in the 25 m heated outdoor sportpool. Open year-round.
Pool-based fitness classes including water gymnastics, aqua aerobics, and aqua Nordic walking in the 25 m Sportpool.
Every Sunday, guests can join the hotel team in transplanting 40 cm young spruce trees from densely planted areas to clearings in the hotel's private forest. Hands-on conservation that takes about an hour.
Evening swimming in the 2,500 m² Natursee under the full moon and stars — offered in August. A genuine guest highlight that books quickly.
Cross-country ski trails pass directly by the hotel. Downhill skiing accessible via the Oberstaufen ski area with 28 lifts, 1 gondola, and 35 km² of pistes. Snowshoe hikes over the Jugethöhe. Included in the Oberstaufen PLUS guest card.
Regular yoga sessions (including Fascia Yoga) in the hotel's fitness studio or, in good weather, by the Natursee or on the meadows. Led by resident instructor. Also available as dedicated yoga weekend and yoga retreat packages.
