Hillside cabin guests get breakfast included at FANGST; rorbu guests do not — it's an add-on worth booking

Why It Matters

Six-generation family ownership in one of Lofoten's most active fishing villages, the only place in the world with a cod liver oil tasting booth, a fine-dining restaurant (FANGST) sourcing everything within the archipelago, and a program of guided activities — ski touring, sea kayaking, northern lights safaris — run directly with local operators. Listed in the Michelin Guide and a Tablet Hotels property.

Hattvika Lodge sits in Ballstad, a fully operational fishing village midway through the Lofoten archipelago, where 1880s fishermen's cottages (rorbu) have been restored into modern accommodation without losing any of their character. The property is family-owned, with current co-owner Guri Jentoft Bøe representing six generations of the Jentoft family who have shaped this village since 1862. Ten freestanding Hillside cabins were added in 2020, perched above the waterfront on steel supports, and the fine-dining restaurant FANGST opened in 2023, cementing Hattvika's status as far more than a pretty place to sleep.
