Why It Matters
Genuine 1926 building with an unbroken waterfront history, direct lobby connection to the Embarcadero YMCA (25-meter pool, steam, sauna), and one of SF's better Japanese restaurants on the ground floor. Rooms are small but well-finished. Recognized by Historic Hotels of America.
Harbor Court Hotel has occupied the same Embarcadero address since 1926, when it served as the Army-Navy YMCA welcoming servicemen arriving by sea. The eight-story Spanish Colonial Revival building sits directly across from the Ferry Building, and the bay views from upper waterfront rooms are genuinely hard to beat — Bay Bridge, Treasure Island, the works. Today it's a 131-room boutique recognized by Historic Hotels of America, with a charcoal-and-chestnut room palette, Malin+Goetz toiletries, and Ozumo sushi downstairs.

A step up from the standard with 205 sq ft and skyline or courtyard views. The Soundfreaq system, 42-inch HDTV, and a proper work desk make it work well for a short business trip.

Skyline Waterfront Penthouse Suite
The biggest room in the building at roughly 450 sq ft, and the one with the best Bay Bridge view. A separate sitting area has a queen sleeper sofa and 60-inch HDTV; the bedroom has a queen bed. Massaging showerheads and Malin + Goetz in the bathroom. It can also connect to an adjacent Queen Bayview room to create a two-bedroom setup.

At 225 sq ft, this is the waterfront room most couples go for. Full Bay Bridge and Treasure Island views, king bed, Malin + Goetz toiletries, and a well-lit work desk. The charcoal-and-chestnut palette holds up well in person.

Same footprint as the Waterfront King at 225 sq ft, but with a queen bed. Views of San Francisco Bay, the Bay Bridge, and Treasure Island. The room you want if you're coming for the scenery.
