Room 102 Málaga is the only pet-friendly room, ground floor with a private garden — book early if traveling with a dog.
Why It Matters
The only hotel in the world designed under The Conran Shop's supervision. Only six rooms exist, each a deep-dive into a specific design movement or artist's world — from the Bauhaus principles of Dessau to a room lined with artwork by Terence Conran's own grandson, Felix Conran. Breakfast is supervised by Orby Restaurant's head chef Makoto Konno and uses organic vegetables from VISON's on-site farm.
Hacienda Vison Hotel is the world's first hotel designed under the supervision of The Conran Shop, opened in August 2024 inside the vast VISON commercial complex in Taki-cho, Mie Prefecture. Just six rooms, each named after and inspired by a different artist or design luminary — think Georgia O'Keeffe, Picasso, Henry Moore, Le Corbusier, Bauhaus Dessau, and Terence Conran himself. The clean geometric façade is deceptive: inside, mid-century furnishings and carefully sourced collectibles turn every room into something close to a private museum.

Every room has a compact kitchen with cookware. The lobby has a large shared kitchen. Guests can shop at VISON's Marché and cook their own meals — a popular way to spend an afternoon.
Arrange for a local chef to cook with fresh Mie ingredients in the hotel's communal lobby kitchen while guests watch or participate. More supper club than restaurant.
An English-style garden on the hotel's south side with raised herb and vegetable beds, a biotope, a flower garden, and natural stone seating around a central fire pit. Open to guests for free-roaming walks. Deer sometimes appear from the adjacent forest in the evening.
The hotel sits in the mountains away from significant light pollution. Clear nights offer excellent star visibility. The fire pit provides warmth for extended evening sessions.
Access to VISON's herbal bath facility developed with Mie University and Rohto Pharmaceutical. Seasonal medicinal herb formulas. Includes café and wellness shop after bathing.
The 119-hectare VISON complex offers Japan's largest direct-market produce market (curated by Michelin-starred chef Ryuji Teshima), organic farm visits, wood craft workshops ('Wood Play'), pottery studios, and cooking workshops. All accessible on foot or a short drive from the hotel.
