Hôtel de L'Abbaye
Historic-meets-design boutique. Flea-market finds sit alongside Pierre Paulin originals and family heirlooms. The feel is a well-curated family home rather than a corporate hotel — intimate, personal, and very Lyon.

Why It Matters
The building is a genuine 19th-century presbytery on a quiet pedestrian square in the UNESCO-listed Presqu'île. L'Artichaut holds a Michelin 'Assiette' distinction and is genuinely popular with locals, not just hotel guests. The Maison Hand interior design has been widely covered in French design press.
A 4-star boutique hotel built into the former presbytery of the Saint-Martin d'Ainay basilica, which sits right across the square. Owner Arthur Laeuffer and Lyon design studio Maison Hand have reworked the 1852 building into 21 rooms spread across three floors — each floor has its own personality: 1970s references on one, clean Maison Hand contemporary on another, and an eclectic mix-and-match on the top. No pool. No gym. No spa. But the Michelin-listed bistronomic restaurant L'Artichaut and the all-day Café Basilic make up for plenty.

The reception team (7h–22h) handles restaurant bookings, event recommendations, and personalized suggestions for exploring Lyon and the surrounding region.
The hotel arranges bespoke events — team lunches and dinners, working seminars, and private celebrations — using the restaurant and café spaces. Contact the hotel directly for group proposals.
The hotel sells Lyon City Cards at the front desk. The pass covers unlimited public transport, free entry to 23 museums and their temporary exhibitions, and river cruises on the Saône.
The hotel's concierge partners with Insolita for bespoke private tours of Lyon — these go beyond the standard routes and include access to areas rarely visited by tourists. Guests describe their preferences and the concierge builds a tailor-made itinerary.
